Heartyshirts believes that we have only two mind modes of operating in regards to taking responsibility of our emotional lives:
1. When we blame an external agent for our life.
2. When we are solely responsible for our life.
We have called the first one "victim" mode and its symbol is a hand that points outwards, blaming someone or something else other than ourselves for our life situation. The second one we call the "hero" mode. Its symbol is a hand pointing inwards, taking full responsibility of our life.
We have the choice of being in one mode or the other but not in both at the same time.
Sometimes, however, we will be victims and other times we will be heroes. That's why both symbols are in the same coat of arms.
Hero mode sparks hope and calls for personal action. It gives us full control and limitless possibilities. Victim mode is static and calls for no action or for someone else to do the action for us. The hope is placed somewhere else and control has been relinquished.
In terms of emotions we believe that a person in hero mode has control of his/her emotions and we especially like the ones who can maintain the light of fun in all life events. Victim mode is great if we don't want to do anything.
